| My memories of Vegas are starting to get a bit fuzzy right now, but I'm
going to try to continue on with my entries... Right now I'm looking at
the convention booklet to see what exactly we had to do that day.
Okay, so Wednesday was just a day for registration type stuff as far as
the convention was concerned. The sad part of Wednesday was that
Keith's friend, Marco, ended up going home that day. He was a
pretty cool guy, a lot of fun to hang out with and to have
around. We all said our goodbyes and saw him off. We had
our big AKPsi welcoming thing that night in one of the convention
rooms. It was a lot of fun. We got numbers coming into the
door and had to go to the group with that number. I was in group
16 with AKPsi's from all over the US. Upon finding my group I was
told we would have to make a sign and chant for our group. Our
sign ended up looking halfway decent (though not as good as a some of
the others, but hey it was OUR sign ;) ) All the groups competed
that night in various activities. The first one my group was in
was this big ball pit with net walls. The object of the game was
to get as many of the white balls we could find. I had a blast
tossing some of my group members in then diving after them, digging
through the different colored balls and stuffing them all in my
shirt. Next was a contest to build the biggest structure out of
marshmallows and angel hair pasta. Ours was the tallest for a
while until another group came along later and built an even bigger
one! After tower-building we had a quiz game. Our team
didn't win, but it was fun. Soon after the quiz game was extreme
twister! I didn't get to participate, but watching was just as
much fun. They had an inflatable twister thing that the
participants climbed up on. The best part was you could try to
knock other people over by bouncing up and down on it. Last came
the most fun thing of the evening... bull riding! They had this
thing set up to where four people tugged viciously at the ropes while
someone else tried to hang onto the bull thing. I knocked quite a
few people off then got tossed off myself!
Later that night Keith, Brynn, and I got all nice and dressed up to
have a night out on the town. We went to a club called Studio
54. It was.. very interesting to say the least. The club
itself was pretty good sized, not overly huge, but not so small that
you can't get through. They had these columns next to the dance
floor where some scantily clad women danced. Every now and then
they would switch one or two of the women out with a couple guys.
All the dancers got pretty well tipped by people on the floor and at
the tables nearby. At first the three of us just wandered around
the place checking everything out. There was a cool little
upstairs section with another bar and another small dance floor with
couches sitting in a few places here and there. When our
explorative spirits were satisfied we grabbed some drinks and looked
over the rail at the dance floor. It was pretty packed down
there, although there was still enough room to move around.
Colorful lights flicked off and on turning the dancers there shades of
blue, green, and amber. At some point more of those dancers from
the columns were lowered down slowly on ropes, doing their dances in
midair. The back wall turned into a giant projection screen then
featuring the dancers for a while, then the camera panned around the
crowd on the floor then all the observers, us included, in the
upstairs. After some time of drinking and watching we made our
way down to the dance floor. The music was pretty decent, though
some of the techno remixes of songs threw me off a bit. I'm not
much of a dancer so I left the floor up to Keith and Brynn. Plus
I was feeling a bit out of place. It was Brynn and Keith... and
Michael. I tend to be the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and whatever odd number
of wheel there is these days. When it comes to dancing.. I feel
awkward enough dancing with someone, but dancing alone just isn't all
that fun. I went looking for a comfy place to sit and drink and
ended up on a couch in the corner. That didn't last long,
however, because aparently I had wandered into a VIP spot and a bouncer
told me I couldn't sit there. So I wandered over to another empty
table. I was soon kicked out of that table as well because
aparently a group had been sitting there before me. I didn't
argue the point, I just wandered somewhere else feeling kind of crappy
and wanting to leave. Eventually Brynn and Keith found me asking
why I wasn't dancing. I told them I was just kind of tired
because we'd been staying out a lot and doing a lot of walking.
At some point we left and went back to the hotel.
Thursday we woke up around 9:30 to get ready for something called
Regional Caucuses. We got to meet up with other AKPsi's from our
region and sat there listening to our regional director.
Well I'm going to go for now, this entry will be continued yet again!!!
Muhahaha! How long will you wait for the rest of Thursday?
Who knows? SUSPENSE!!!!!!!!!!

| Unfortunately this is just a quicky again. Yeah, yeah, yeah.. I
know, you guys are dying to hear about the last half of the Vegas
trip. I just got internet hooked up in my apartment today so I
haven't been able to get on xanga for quite some time. Anyhow,
I'll finish up the story and give a sound update of my last fall
semester soon enough (hopefully). Until then, take it easy!

| So it's been a while since I've updated... sue me! Let me make some sort of attempt to recap my life since then. I've been making a few quicky entries, but maybe this one will actually have more substance and purpose other than informing all my readers (if there are any) out there that yes, I am in fact still alive and kicking! So without further adieu...
Vegas was a blast! I had an absolute great time.. well for the most part.. while I was out there. On Monday my cousin, Stuart graciously drove me to the airport. We had a great talk on the way up there which was a lot of fun because I hardly get to see him anymore. When we got to the airport we hung out at a bar close to the main entrance and had a couple drinks while we waited for Keith. After a while I decided to call Keith only to find out he's already been through the security checkpoint! So Stuart and I said our goodbyes and I went on through security to find Keith at yet another bar somewhere on the other side. So I sat with him and kicked back a couple more before the flight. By the time I got to the plane I was already feeling decent (just a small buzz). The flight was cool. Aparently one of the flight attendants took a liking to us because she kept bringing us free drinks. We had about 4 or 5 crown and cokes on the plane! By the time we were in Vegas we were already feeling pretty darn good! We met up with Marco and Brynn (Keith's friends from the Disney intership program he was in) and we headed for the hotel. Later we went to Panda Express. I'd never eaten there before, but it was SOOO good! Then we hit up a grocery store for some good 'ol booze-a-hol. We stocked up real good for the week so we could get tipsy before we got to the clubs. We drank the night away then went out for a stroll down the strip. Keith picked up a new favorite saying that he wore out after a few days, "Cold beer, Dirty girls, bull riding!" or something to that effect. He saw it on a huge marquee in front of Westward Ho. I don't even know what time we got to bed that night, but the next morning I woke up at freakin' 8:00! I couldn't get back to sleep for anything and the others wouldn't wake up for anything.
Tuesday was an early day for me. After flipping through the few crappy channels on the tv (one including a channel called WCN that all it said over and over 24/7 was "This is WCN-Your network for convention news") I decided to get up and actually do something. I ended up walking to the Fashion Show Mall to see what the big fuss was all about. Brynn had talked about it all the night before so I figured I would go check it out.
*interrupted by drunk phone call, but I'm back*
I had an alright time walking around the mall aimlessly. I saw lots of stores I've never even heard of with prices that were.. well... unheard of! I went to this one store with a wierd name (it was dutch) and talked to the lady working there about their speaker systems and stuff for a while. They had some awesome stuff there! It was really futuristic looking (and expensive). Somehow I found out that her husband has dealings in Bowling Green, KY (I think he used to live there). Small world huh? At some point I went to the Nokia phone store to see what kind of phones that had out west. Very nice, and of course very expensive. I ended up talking to a young girl (either late high school or early college) that worked there for a while. She was from Texas and her grandparents had recently moved to Greensburg, KY!!! Talk about wierd! That's two people in one day that had ties to KY. And greensburg is like an hour away from home so that's pretty darn close! When I finally got tired of walking around (and the sleep deprivation started catching up) I decided to go back to the hotel to see if the others were awake yet. On the way I stopped and got some water (it's soooo dry out there) and this cab driver asked me where I got it whenever I walked past him sitting in the shade. So, being the unusually nice guy I can be sometimes, I offered to go get a bottle for him since he couldn't leave his taxi. He gave me a couple bucks, I went to 7/11 and came back with his water. He was happy, I felt good for doing a good deed and all was right with the world Eventually I got back to the room and they were almost ready to leave, just one more in the shower (good timing).
Later that day we met up with some of our friends that came on another flight and went to Caeser's Palace. That place is real nice. We got some drinks outside and wandered around the place. Some people split off from the group at some point and went to the Coca-Cola museum, I decided to stick around Caeser's, though. Oh, random side notes here: One thing that was really wierd was that there were like no buildings that didn't permit smoking. It was so wierd to see that when your used to everywhere back home being smoke free. Second side note: despite this, in most parts of the town everything was CLEAN! No butts about it! Anyway, the remainder of the group (Me, Kyle, Adam, and Sarah) went in to the forum shops. There was this huge fountain in the middle of the mall and giant statues of women in togas with, yes, one boob hangin out. heh. Sin City through-and-through, but it was more because of the roman theme. That place was amazing though. The first section of the mall was kind of cool, but later Kyle and I lost Sarah and Adam so we went searching through the rest of the mall (I didn't even know there was more cuz the first part was so big). It was... just beautiful really. We went down these stairs and it was like entering another world. The floor was like cobbled streets, the shops had an olde Italian look to them and the ceiling was painted sky blue with puffy white clouds. Because of the arched ceiling the clouds looked almost like they were moving. Farther on down it opened into a huge circle like some old time town square. There was also a giant trojan horse you could go inside that was part of a toy store. We eventually gave up our search and made our way back out of the mall. We parked ourselves at the outdoor bar where we had all met up earlier. We waited there for a few hours just watching the random people walking by and talking about whatever came to mind. Eventually we got bored and headed back to the Riviera. That was one long freakin walk. It took us probably around 40 minutes to walk back if not more.. I didn't really pay attention to the time. When we got back Kyle went to find the others that came with him (they were back at his hotel) and I took a nap! I think that night we did some more drinking and wandering.. we never made it to a club that I can recall.
Wednesday: I actually slept in a bit longer for once. That day we had to register for the convention. We got bags with info in them and T-shirts. I think we wandered the strip some more that day (we did a lot of wandering so I can't remember which days we did and which we didn't)
Okay.. I'm going to have to continue this later on, I'm just a bit tired and my memory's fuzzing up right now.
TO BE CONTINUED........
| Well here's another quickie for you guys since I'm at work and it's almost the end of the day. Vegas was great, it was nice to actually get away from EVERYTHING for a whole week. My mind and soul feel better, but my wallet is badly battered. It's not from gambling either I didn't really do a whole lot of gambling seeing as how I don't have much to gamble with in the first place. I played some slots and that was about it. I either came out even or a couple dollars extra. In the end, though, I'm pretty broke from the plane ticket, hotel, clubbing, and FOOD. Food is so freakin expensive out there, but usually you get what you pay for. Clubs and booze are pretty expensive as well. I went to a different club just about every night (some nights I went to two) and every time spent at least $50 ($10/drink and generally $10-$30 cover charge). So... I don't think I'm going to be going out quite so much this semester, or at least I'll try to keep things cheap. Despite the heavy pounding my wallet took I had an awesome time. I got to meet people in AKPsi from all over the US, Canada, and UK. One thing I didn't get to do when I was out there was drunk dial my friends It was usually around 3:00-5:00 in the morning back home when I was drunk enough to want to, but I still had enough sense not to call and wake them up! I'm liable to get shot by them for that! haha. Anyway, I'll probably give a more detailed update later on with some good 'ol pictures! | | |
| Just a quicky tonight cuz you know how much I love quickies
I'll be in Vegas for a WHOLE WEEK!!! WOO!!! I can't wait! My flight leaves tomorrow afternoon at 3 and I won't be back in KY until next Monday! Okay.. that's enough exclamations! heh. I'm really excited and really nervous. I haven't flown since before 9/11 so that's part of the nervousness. The rest is because it's not completely a school function and my family isn't going. It's my business fraternity's national convention. So the other nervous part comes from the trip not being all mapped out for me like I'm used to. Oh, well, I'll figure it all out whenever I get there. It'll be a fun experience to remember.
That's all for now I guess. Updates and maybe pictures when I get back!
